Braised banana with coconut gravy

Today's menu is another coconut-based dish: braised banana with coconut gravy (a.k.a. kolak pisang, hehehe).

Banana is easy to find in Japan. Almost all convenient stores (mini markets, e.g., ministop, seven-eleven, circle-K) sell it. Beside banana fritter (pisang goreng), I like to eat banana as "kolak pisang". When I showed my kolak pisang result to some of my Indonesian friends, they wondered why it looked so pale. I guess it was mainly because I didn't use palm sugar. But don't worry, this kolak pisang still tastes wonderful.

Emergency bothok

Bothok (botok) is one of my favorite childhood dishes. I always love the savory of coconut flake (parutan kelapa :p) combined with small fishes. Yumm..

One day, when I wanted it so bad, I decided to make it right away. Of course we don't have banana leaves here (to wrap the bothok). We also don't have petai cina/lamtoro gung (how to say it in English??? --> click here if you're curious). 

But who really cares? Let's just call it 'emergency bothok' :D

Naranja Colada

Weh.. I haven't posted anything in quite a time. 

(Kaigiman and I cooked and ate a lot recently. I was overwhelmed. I took some pictures in the beginning, but then I decided to give up, hehe.. I just didn't have much time to post and write.)

Anyway, now here I am :)

Have you ever heard Pina Colada? Its kind of pineapple (pina) juice with coconut milk. I tried it for the first time in Honolulu. And it tasted soo damn good (and refreshing). Oh, don't forget to say 'virgin' (i.e., virgin pina colada), or else they will put some rum (alcohol) inside your drink.

Back in Toyohashi, I was craved for Pina Colada. I couldn't find pineapple that easily that time, so I decided to modify a bit: using orange instead of pineapple.

Do you also want to try? I dont remember which recipe did I use, well.. try to google 'orange colada' if you want :)
Ps: actually, they have another name for it: Naranja Colada.
